Aqara Smart Lock U50 Review

I tested the Aqara Smart Lock U50 for its Apple HomeKit integration and day-to-day performance. The lock has a sleek solid build, was easy to install, and offers many ways to unlock it including fingerprint, passcode, app, key, and remote HomeKit control. It works well for guests or service providers with temporary codes and NFC, though auto-lock can be finicky if the door is not fully shut.

The Aqara U50 impressed me right away with its sleek design and solid feel. It looks and feels like a quality security device that belongs on your door.

Installation and Setup

Installation was straightforward with clear instructions and all necessary hardware included. I did it myself without calling a professional. Pairing with Apple HomeKit was as simple as scanning a QR code, after which I could control it from my iPhone.

Access Methods

The U50 offers many ways to unlock: through the Aqara app, fingerprint, passcode, mechanical key, or remotely via HomeKit. The fingerprint reader is fast and responsive. It also supports temporary passcodes and NFC, which is great for guests, Airbnb, or service providers.

HomeKit Integration

HomeKit integration works very well. I can check lock status, get notifications when someone enters or leaves, and create automations such as turning on lights when unlocking at night. This adds real convenience and reassurance.

Battery and Reliability

The lock runs on four AA batteries that last around six months based on my usage. It has a USB-C port for emergency power. Reliability is generally good but the auto-lock sometimes fails if the door is not shut tightly, requiring an extra push.
